Let’s take a scenario where there is no room for a slot for any particular appointment, for example, a cervical smear for weeks. This is where we may have to say to a patient that there is no way we can fit them into anything for a long period of time, and clearly, patients won’t necessarily be happy with this.
This is where the waiting list function comes in handy, whereby if we say to a patient that they’ve been added to a waiting list, it acts as a method of reassurance such that the patient is left feeling like their query has at least been acknowledged.
The waiting lists should be checked by receptionists from time to time. The way to access them is to head over to appointments in the top left hand corner of SystmOne, and selecting waiting lists from the drop down.
